On the 5th of Ijar, 10.May (next Tuesday) the land of Israel is celebrating its 63rd birthday.
Israel is the love of my life. The moment I go out of the plane and see the first Mezuzah at the Airport door is making me cry of joy. Although the land is so small every single city is still different. Every city has his charm and beauty. Just walking on the street is making me happy. Can you imagine the bus driver is wearing a kippah and you can hear him listening to Chaim Israel out loud? When you life here in Berlin you start to appreciate and love all the Jews around you.
While I was walking at the Shuk in Jerusalem I heard a song playing out loud from a very small record store. I heard that song before and really wanted to know who the artist was. While I was walking in to the store with a smile on my face because I was about to finally found out who the artist is, the Israeli co-worker took the CD and pushed it in my hand while eating a sandwich. I asked him if that is the song I am hearing and he just nodded enjoying the food. I still ask myself how he knew what I was looking for. In Israel you just do not need Hebrew, people understand you when you talk with your hands and feet. That is the Jewish Connection we all have in us.
In Adar my sister and me spend a Shabbat in the holy city of Hevron, we were walking on Friday night from Kiryat Arba to the Machpelah. It was a ten minute walk through a Arab neighbor hood guarded by hundreds of soldiers. Arriving at the Machpelah was just one big celebration. I finally felt what Shabbat really is. Everybody was dancing and singing. I was really beautiful and meaningful.
Israel is and always will be the love of my life. Having Israel now after so many years is a gift and a blessing. Israel may you be healthy and strong. May you always be with us, the people that love and need you so much. Although I was not born and never lived with you I know that we will always belong together. May you life forever: Happy Birthday Israel.
